ditmas lyrics

Ditmas

[Verse 1]

And in time
As one reminds the other of the past
A life lived much too fast to hold onto
How am I losing you?
A broken house

Another dry month waiting for the rain
And I had been resisting this decay
I thought you'd do the same

[Hook]

But this is all I ever was
And this is all you came across those years ago
Now you go too far
Don't tell me that I've changed because that's not the truth
And now I'm losing you

[Verse 2]

Fragile sound
The world outside just watches as we crawl
Crawl towards a life of fragile lines
And wasted time
And so I cry

As I hold you for the last time in this life
This life I tried so hard to give to you
What would you have me do?

[Hook]

[Bridge]

Where I used to end was where you start
You were the only one
And now I see your eyes move too fast
You were the only one

[Verse 3]

Careful hands
And wandering without that much to say
Your words are empty as the bed we made
Is there another way?
Oh love, is there another way?

[Hook]

And now I'm losing you

[Outro]

The cave lyrics

The cave lyrics

It's empty in the valley of your heart
The sun, it rises slowly as you walk
Away from all the fears
And all the faults you've left behind

The harvest left no food for you to eat
You cannibal, you meat eater, you see
But I have seen the sameI know the shame in your defeat

But I will hold on hope
And I won't let you choke
On the noose around your neck

And I'll find strength in pain
And I will change my ways
I'll know my name as it's called again

'Cause I have other things to fill my time
You take what is yours and I'll take mine
Now let me at the truth
Which will refresh my broken mind

So tie me to a post and block my ears
I can see widows and orphans through my tears
I know my call despite my faults
And despite my growing fears

But I will hold on hope
And I won't let you choke
On the noose around your neck

And I'll find strength in pain
And I will change my ways
I'll know my name as it's called again

So come out of your cave walking on your hands
And see the world hanging upside down
You can understand dependence
When you know the maker's hand

So make your siren's call
And sing all you want
I will not hear what you have to say

'Cause I need freedom now
And I need to know how
To live my life as it's meant to be

And I will hold on hope
And I won't let you choke
On the noose around your neck

And I'll find strength in pain
And I will change my ways
I'll know my name as it's called again

adorno and horkheimer

Adorno and Horkheimer created the theory of the "Culture industry" in the 1940s.

The theory suggests that all cultural products are standardised, they are all similar. Large corporations  create cultural products that fit what we want or may need, if the corporations believe we do not want something they will not produce it. Cultural items are mainly based on mass opinion which through media monopolisation is controlled by conglomerate media companies creating the cultural products. The culture industry is deceitful as the consumer believes they are an individual buying something that suits there personal style, however it is produced to be attractive to the masses.

Adorno and Horkheimer proposed the idea that all products from every media platform is created to manipulate our preferences so they we will be susceptible to the advertising of other products. For example when you buy something online it comes up with "you might also be interested in" and shows a variety of products that are not the same but link to what you have just bought in the hope you will buy and spend more. Adorno and Horkheimer argue that nobody is an individual as the culture industry creates masses of people that are the same due to there interests.

The music and culture industry

All music is created to be attractive to a mass audience, to the point where it is all the same with only minor differences. Adorno and Horkheirmer likened the music industry to any other mass produced item made in a factory. There are a standard set of things needed in music for example a band: different styled band members, good looking etc. This widens the attractive range of the band and in return creates a larger audience.
